SECO opens the position of Third Party Design Reviewer for the purpose of Job Shadowing, offering PhD candidates (≥ 3rd year of the PhD trajectory) / postdocs affiliated with 1 of the 5 Flemish universities the possibility to see for themselves what tasks and responsibilities come with this particular job function.
A Third Party Design Reviewer at SECO acts as a second pair of eyes for the construction industry, making sure that impressive structures are not only beautiful, but also safe and sustainable. A Third Party Design Reviewer
- conducts third-party reviews and critically and independently assesses steel structures,
- collaborates with experienced colleagues to perform risk analyses and determine key focus areas,
- examines design drawings and supporting calculations, using your own shadow models, simulations and analyses,
- has the opportunity to join development groups and contribute to innovative processes,
- visits construction sites and steel workshops, engaging with clients, engineering firms, and contractors,
- works closely with specialists in concrete, foundations, timber, joinery, and building systems.
> Open to PhD candidates/postdocs with a background in Engineering, more specifically steel construction (bridges, lock doors, football stadiums, special buildings). A firm knowledge of Dutch is required.
