The Flemish Land Agency/Vlaamse Landmaatschappij/VLM opens the position of Policy Advisor (Beleidsmedewerker) for the purpose of Job Shadowing, offering PhD candidates (≥ 3rd year of the PhD trajectory) / postdocs affiliated with 1 of the 5 Flemish universities the possibility to see for themselves what tasks and responsibilities come with this particular job function.
A Policy Advisor in the Division of Agri-Environment Climate Measures (Dienst Beheerovereenkomsten) in the Department of Rural Areas and Manure Policy at VLM is involved in several European (Horizon Europe and LIFE), regional and local projects on interactions between agriculture and nature, often with a focus on AECMs, either as an active partner, collaborator, in the steering committee or in drafting the project proposal. In addition, the Policy Advisor also identifies and formulates research questions relevant for agri-environmental policy, and follows up international scientific research to summarize the findings and translate these insights for policy makers and administrative entities. The Policy Advisor also initiates the creation of a Science-Policy Interface, in collaboration with other administrations, such as the Agency of Agriculture and Marine fisheries (Agentschap Landbouw en Zeevisserij), the Agency of Nature and Forests (Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos) and the Department of Environment (Departement Omgeving). In addition, the Policy Advisor does the utmost to enhance the flow of knowledge and scientific insights into the division.
> Open to PhD candidates / postdocs with a background in Agriculture, Environment, Biology, Policy. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus, but not essential. Knowledge of European and Flemish agri-environmental policy can be useful.
VLM offers a 1-day Job Shadowing experience. The dates for Job Shadowing will be decided upon in close consultation with the selected candidate - however not on 7 and 8 October.
